AG birthday party ideas for 8 yr old.

OK new friends...my 8 yr old daughters birthday is in 12 days. She wants an American Girl Birthday party. I went to Hallmark and bought decorations, but could use some good ideas! Activities? Foods? etc?

Does she have a favorite character? If you go to your library, they may have the American Girls Party Book or some of the historcial girls' individual cook books or craft books. The old American Girls Club book also has party recipes and games for each girl up to Josefina. If you have a specific girl in mind I could type up some of the things for you if you'd like. I'd recommend a tea party with fancy dresses to start with [img]wink.gif[/img] in my experience that usually goes over well!!

My dd when she turned 11 last year did an AG birthday party. And my other dd is turning 8 in December, and is having one.

We had an AG tea party thing last year. The party girls made cookies (I had identical cookie cutters in large and small sizes) for the girls and the dolls. I made tables for the dolls (quick and easy and cheap - plywood and they look like shelves - no chairs the dolls sit on the "floor"), and made quick tableclothes (rectangular pieces of cloth that touch the ground on all sides so that you don't see the tables) for them. I put a rug on my coffee table and set-up the doll "tables" on them with a doll-sized tea set and clay food that we made. We had 8 dolls sitting on my coffee table!

The children had miscellaneous tea cups that I bought cheaply over ebay and at various places around town.

I tried to do everything in miniature. We had individual sized ice cream (Walgreens has the CUTEST little ice cream boxes! It looks like mini half-gallons! Word of warning though, 1 really feeds 2 girls!) Mini-cupcakes for the dolls.

I've gotta go right now, but I'll try to post more later, or you can pm me. I've got historical ideas coming out my ears, too, from my class!

BTW I would seriously check out Walmart or Hobby Lobby and see if you can find those mini-uno cards for either party favors or a game! You would not believe the response the girls in my class had when they all got those last week! They ALL loved them!

My daughter is having an AG party in February so we have been planning as well. I definitely would check out the AG Party Book. We have it and the only problem I see is that there is too much to chose from! Around here people have done the tea party thing to death so for my daughter we are going to try to have a mixture of games, etc so the girls can get a sampling from all the dolls. Everyone likes a different doll and this way we thought it might be more interesting for everyone. We are going to include in the invitation for them to bring their doll and if they do not have one, they can bring any doll they want. That way those without an AG doll won't feel excluded. We also purchased all the AG party paraphenalia so we will be using that as well. Please let us know what you all decide. Maybe we can get some more ideas [img]smile.gif[/img]

If they're into AGOT, have a hairstyling session! You can get tons of cute hair clips, barrettes, pony holders and other styling accessories at your local dollar store.

Or you could have the girls decorate shirts for their dolls using puffy paints, glitter, etc. Just keep them away from the dolls until everything dries.

Anne, I love the hairstyling idea!!! That sounds like alot of fun...DD's BD is in May, so maybe that might happen here too!

For the hairstyling session make sure you have a few of those "spritzer" water bottles to go around. Those are very popular; just be sure the girls know not to spray the water in the dolls' eyes.
